The Exhibition’s Vision
Leadership and excellence in hosting an international event that enables the exchange of scientific expertise and showcases investment opportunities to strengthen economic growth in the fisheries sector and achieve the goals of sustainable development locally, regionally and globally.
The vast Red Sea coastline — with its pristine waters and favourable environmental conditions — is a largely untapped gold mine in terms of its marine resources and its capacity for aquaculture production. Managed soundly and sustainably, it can supply high-quality seafood to local markets and to the wider international market.
Overall, the Kingdom’s strategic geographic location offers an ideal opportunity for the country to become a leading source of high-quality seafood, serving the GCC market as well as European and Asian markets.
The National Plan for the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, within the framework of Vision 2030, targets helping the private sector produce roughly half a million tons of seafood. Aquaculture in particular seeks to build a strong pillar for the country’s new economy, contribute to GDP, provide skilled jobs, and help address food security effectively in the most environmentally sustainable way.
To deliver this plan, the government established the National Fisheries Development Program — the executive arm for implementing the government’s strategy to develop the fisheries and aquaculture industries in line with the goals of Vision 2030. The Program has been equipped with a “toolkit” of carefully planned key initiatives, expected to act as catalysts for further growth in this industry by mobilising private interest and investment in the sector.
The smart, sustainable use of the Kingdom’s unique natural and environmental resources, alongside the potential of the seafood market to grow at national, regional and wider international levels, are the cornerstones of this strategy — which is already unfolding.
