Existing & Planned Projects and Initiatives
The National Program drives a portfolio of distinctive projects and initiatives that open broad investment horizons for the private sector across the Kingdom’s fisheries and livestock value chain:
- Establishing the Regional Center for the Sustainable Development of Fisheries.
- Establishing the Animal Protein City within the Basic and Transformative Industries City in Jazan.
- Enhancing Saudi exports’ access to global markets for fisheries products (fish, shrimp) and animal products (powdered milk, infant formula, dairy derivatives).
- Delivering a national, multi-action marketing campaign to raise awareness of the importance of animal and fisheries products and to elevate consumption patterns.
- Supporting scientific and applied research to increase the contribution of research and innovation to better implementation of the sector’s national strategy.
- Implementing a national program to accredit all aquaculture facilities in line with public-service management standards and the aquaculture policy (the Saudi aquaculture quality mark, “SAMAK”).
- Developing a national certification and labelling system for sustainable natural fisheries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- Establishing hatcheries for inland and marine fish.
- Establishing shrimp hatcheries.
- Establishing an algae-technology development unit.
- Delivering several projects in technological R&D and innovation focused on feed conversion and improving production efficiency.
- Delivering several projects for training, qualification and building national human capacity.
- Participating in ten (10) local and international exhibitions and conferences annually to attract foreign investment and develop investment opportunities in the Kingdom.
- Conducting several site-specific feasibility studies for new commercial aquaculture projects.
- Conducting several site-specific environmental impact assessment studies for new commercial aquaculture projects.
